How confident are you? Do you think people are fundamentally honest, or do you think people are only honest when they think someone else is watching? There are theories that people feel under pressure when someone else is watching them to do the right thing, but when no one is watching, they don't feel as obligated to do what is usually expected. Many people have observed people using deterrence or following the honor system. Deterrence is a theory based on behavioral psychology aimed at preventing or controlling actions and behaviors through fear of punishment. (Henry Farrell, 2013). Deterrence is divided into two distinct categories. General deterrence consists of providing examples of deviants. The individual is not the focus of behavior change, but rather of punishment in the public eye to protect individuals from deviance in the future. Specific deterrence focuses on the deviant individual and attempts to correct their behavior. The honor system or honesty system is a philosophical way of varied endeavors based on trust, honor and honesty. A person involved in the honor system has a strong desire to break it or oppose it. Negative aspects include community shame, loss of stature, and loss of personal integrity and pride in extreme situations. They are more likely to do good things even when no one is watching or present to witness their actions. Scientists have conducted experiments to prove different theories about whether people feel more compelled to do good when someone is around, or whether people don't. don't care, or if they are more likely to do good when they are being watched. The main reason a child lies is to avoid punishment or also to impress their friends at school. In studies, children were observed, 4-year-olds lied every two hours, six-year-olds could only last 90 minutes before making something up.
