Anderson, asleep at his desk for a bit in the film and it soon turns into what appears to be a dream. In this we find out that his name is Neo and that he is a hacker selling illegal software. After talking to Trinity for a while, an alarm goes off, waking him up as he is back in his own bed. A phone is delivered to Neo and the first call he receives is from Morpheus who tells him that men in suits are chasing him. These men end up capturing and interrogating him. These men, known as Agents, hold Neo down and insert a metal-like device into his stomach. He soon wakes up at home and Morpheus tells him that he is "the one." When he meets Trinity and Morpheus, Trinity removes the metal device from his stomach, which shocks him because he did not believe it was real. Morpheus soon offers to reveal the Matrix to Neo. He has the choice between a red pill or a blue pill; the blue in which he will return home without remembering anything, the red in which it will allow him to see the truth. He chooses the red that will turn his world upside down. The film soon explains resistance to control. Morpheus explains to him that a long time ago, humans developed artificial intelligence over which they quickly lost control. They have desperately created a nuclear winter hoping to eliminate the solar robots necessary for their survival by blocking access to solar energy.
