  • Essay / Public Relations and Twitter - 1389

Twitter has attracted the attention of various professions, from sports analysts to business executives. Twitter can be used to share information, provide advice and promote events. The multiple ways to use Twitter are very similar to the tasks of a public relations professional. Although Twitter is used to complement the tools already available to public relations professionals, Twitter provides an excellent way to account for practices exorcised during the proactive phase of the conflict management lifecycle. Many PR professionals and agencies have started to merge Twitter into their daily practice. Landis Communication, Simply Zesty and Bill Stoller have notably taken advantage of Twitter to continue their work in the field of public relations. When monitoring the three Twitter accounts, a distinctive pattern in the information shared had a direct link to the three subcategories of the proactive stage. Landis Communication is a public relations firm based in San Francisco, California that strategically partners with clients to show how communication can engineer and support business growth and success (About Us, 2014). The reason I chose to follow Landis Communication, the @LandisCommunication Twitter account, is because they are based in San Francisco and have a great handle on the social media aspect of PR, which is what interests me . While following Landis Communication on Twitter, I noticed several patterns in their tweets. Many of their tweets were about PR, local news, and social media that coincided with each other. The Landis Communication Twitter account allows you to carry out the environmental analysis part of the proactive step. Environmental scanning is the careful monitoring of an organization...... middle of paper......conventional way of looking at newspapers and websites. Twitter has given way to a whole new idea of how information can be delivered to the public. Environmental scanning, tracking, and problem management can be done simply by looking at a Twitter feed of all the areas you want to cover to find the particular information you're looking for. Twitter has integrated itself into every aspect of businesses and professions. The use of Twitter, which was once intended to share feelings and inform, has now evolved into a broader idea that people are able to understand what is happening everywhere around them on a larger scale.
