Essay / History of British Policing - 671
It is well known that there have always been people who committed crimes, but there were not always police to stop them. The word itself (Police) designates the officers responsible for peace or employed for this purpose. The history of the British police varies more than that of other countries and, even today, its appearance bears no resemblance to that of other police forces around the world. It all started around 2000 years ago when the Saxons introduced their own form of policing to Britain and let's see how it has diversified over the years. As has been mentioned before, the police were not always present, the first evidence of the police was brought to British law enforcement in 1361. but let's go back much further, to the time when "the people were the police.” As the crimes were there, people had to take action to defend their positions. This person's duty was to protect his district/region from crime and he had to work with the local judges. After a while, a group called "The Watch" was added, made up of people paid to guard gates, streets, etc. But by the end of the 18th century, both systems failed and were no longer used. In addition to this, everything stimulated the formulation of the “New Police”. At the time of the industrial revolution, there was great chaos on the streets of Lo...... middle of newspaper...... in the detectives arrived. It was very difficult to ensure that the police followed the rules. Many police officers have been arrested for misconduct while on duty. During the 1900s, the police force grew by 16,000 officers, they began to obey the rules and fight crimes. no longer sufficient and, as a result, the number of crimes fell dramatically. The name of the police force was changed to "Metropolitan Police Service". The uniforms have remained almost identical, they still cannot have a weapon but must wear a duty belt which contains a radio, handcuffs, gloves and pepper spray. To summarize, we can see that police forces have gone through a long history to be established. as it is now and it is very likely that this will change even more in the future. The Metropolitan Police Department still exists until today. The only major difference is that there is no longer just a policeman but also a policewoman...
