  • Essay / Managerial Communication - 962

The purpose of this report is to explore how managerial communication theory can be implemented in today's business market. This will also explore how the communication climate in an organization can increase communication effectiveness. Much of managerial communication focuses on the ability to strategically approach every situation where communication is necessary. This approach can be considered an onion; you have to peel back the layers to get to the heart or strategy. The first, outermost layer includes the climate and culture in which communication takes place. The communication strategy must be consistent with the context of national and organizational cultures. The second layer involves the sender, recipient, and purpose of the message. The third message includes the message, the channel environment, and the timing of the communication (Geraldine E. Hynes, 2011, p 41). Located in the first layer, along with culture, is the communication climate. Geraldine E. Hynes (2011) explains how past communication can have a cumulative effect on workplace climate. This is influenced by how open or closed, trusting or secretive communication is in an organization (p 28). The Chicago Tribune provides an example of how the communications climate of Emkay, a large fleet rental company, affects the company's employees. Robert Channick (2011) reports: "Started at a Chicago Chevrolet dealership 65 years ago, Emkay has grown into one of the nation's largest fleet rental companies, with annual revenue of 600 million dollars. Ranked fourth among small businesses in the survey, the privately held company was ranked among the best in overall communication, keeping its 150 employees informed of the company's progress” (Emkay's common goal…. .. middle of paper ......employee ivity, morale and efficiency This will also enable good time management when applied, allowing managers to focus on other responsibilities and goals. reference Ale Smidts, Cees BM Van Riel & Pruyn, Ad TH.H (2000 and Perceived external prestige on organizational identification.
