The media can have multiple influences on a person. Advertisements affect people significantly. There are so many advertisements glorifying junk food. For example, there are many McDonald's advertisements that promote their Happy Meals when in reality the food is very fake and unhealthy and causes many people to become overweight and obese. These advertisements have an extreme effect on health. Additionally, instead of going outside and exercising, children stay indoors, watching TV or spending time on the Internet. Additionally, when many people look in magazines, they see the image of what appears to be a perfect man or woman. Girls see wonderfully beautiful and overly thin women. As a result, many girls become anorexic trying to be more like this image. “A study reports that at age thirteen, 53% of American girls are unhappy with their bodies. This figure rises to 78% when girls reach seventeen” (“Media”). However, these images aren't even real. Most of the time, the photos of these women are photoshopped and retouched. Imagine a person is watching a TV show or movie that looks like the characters are having fun. A young child, teenager, or maybe even an adult sees these characters partying and having a lot of fun. All these characters drink and smoke. Some people might think that these characters look like they are having a lot of fun and want to be like them. As a result, these people may also engage in these behaviors since that is what they have been exposed to. For another example, let's say someone has idolized a celebrity since they were very young. However, the media is now publishing images showing this star smoking. This may influence this celebrity's fan... middle of paper ......f be careful.
