Essay / The Importance of Conflict for Personal Growth - 806
Conflict is a part of life. In fact, without conflict there would be no progress in personal and community situations and it probably wouldn't even make us who we are. It is through conflict that we learn to control our emotions and give ourselves the opportunity to learn and grow. It also allows us to be open to other opinions and points of view. During this time, we may face difficult decisions and will often make mistakes, but all of this will help us grow in wisdom and consideration for others to become better individuals. There are many types of conflicts, but a few that really stand out to me are family conflicts, environmental conflicts, and war conflicts. Conflicts can arise in many situations. One of them is through family. Conflict can arise when family members have different opinions or beliefs that clash, or when people misunderstand each other and come to the wrong conclusions. This can often lead to arguments and resentment. Families can learn and grow in situations like this. Instead of disagreeing with each other, they can learn to understand each other's points of view and feelings to find a solution. This is shown in the TV show Packed to the Rafters (Lee), where the family is often at odds with each other. In one episode, Dave takes his son Nathan as a work organizer. As they are father and son, this causes a lot of conflict between the two. Nathan says "ok, this is your business we're talking about, remember, no one will do it for us". Dave responds, “Exactly, it’s my business and you’re treating me like a stupid chewing apprentice!” and Nathan replies "Well, it's hard not to when you act like one!" But always in the end, they resolve the conflict, which only brings them closer... middle of paper ... all cases as real men and women. This is shown in Saving Private Ryan (Spielberg). Each man in the film grows up and takes responsibility for their actions, even though most of them die. It's mainly through Ryan that we really see him grow from a country boy to a real man. It is through war conflicts that people change and allow them to become mature human beings. It is through conflict that people will learn, grow and realize how much they need each other, we will understand how blessed we are and this will change people and allow them to become mature human beings. It is through conflict that we can gain a better understanding of ourselves and others around us and are able to grow within ourselves to better understand the world. It is through conflict that we can become better people.
