Return of the Jedi ReviewThis “Return of the Jedi” movie review article will cover the movie’s story, main characters, conflict, and theme. Additionally, I will describe some cinematic techniques and special effects that I observed during the film. Next, I will show how film played a role in American history and how American culture was expressed through film. Finally, I will convey my personal reactions to the film. In the opening scene of Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, Luke's long-lost father, arrives to inspect the unfinished Death Star. The officer in charge salutes Vader then asks for more time to compete at the battle station. Darth Vader warned him that the Emperor is unhappy and is not as forgiving as he is. Then, Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance came together to save their friend Han Solo from his carbon-frozen state in the palace of a galactic villain called Jabba the Hutt. The Alliance will need all the help they can get to lead an attack on the Death Star. The rebels will seek to destroy the doomsday weapon and the evil emperor. Luke knows this will be his chance to face Darth Vader. Luke believes his father still has good in him and refuses to believe that Vader has gone to the dark side forever. In the three-part action finale, Luke fights with Darth Vader while the Emperor watches and attempts to manipulate Luke into using his feelings of anger and vengeance to kill the Emperor, who is unarmed, in order to lure Luke to the dark side. While Luke is on the Death Star, the Rebel Alliance engages the Emperor's fleet with all of its ships, but suffers heavy losses. On the forest moon of Endor, Han Solo, Princess Leia, the droids, R2...... middle of paper ...... before the premiere of Episode I, and hundreds of people have slept outside for several days in order to buy these tickets. Personally, I thought the filmmakers didn't put as much imagination into the main plot as they did into the opening scene of the film. Once again, I think the film set the bar for special effects. On a positive note, making the fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader as important as Rebels versus the Empire is very dramatic. Another dramatic scene is the idea of Luke struggling to avoid feelings of anger and revenge, which could draw him to the dark side. Unfortunately, I observed an obsession with visual gimmicks, silly aliens and robots, less well-developed plots, and a disinterest in good acting. The three-part action finale is thrilling, but the back-and-forth between scenes interrupts the overall flow of the film..
