Organ donation is a big decision, but former University of North Carolina mascot Jason Ray decided that when it was time to join God, he wanted to help save the lives of others. . While returning to the hotel to join the rest of the team at a tournament, Ray was hit from behind by a reckless driver. He passed away later that day and it was a day full of sadness but, for some, a day to start again. Thanks to Jason's decision to become an organ donor, seventy-five other people survive because of his courageous decision to donate their organs, tissues, skin, and blood after his death (Drehs). Participation in organ donation can improve society, preventing death through improved processes, and eliminating organ trafficking. First of all, everyone knows that death is inevitable. Although some argue that organ transplantation is dangerous, organ donation saves more lives than it destroys. “More than one hundred thousand men, women and children are currently in need of life-saving organ transplants” (Orlowski). There are two ways to donate. The first is to be a deceased donor, which means that after a person dies, their organs will be donated to others in need. The other route is a living donor. People who are brain dead are perfect candidates for organ donation. A person's organs are still perfectly intact, but the person is unresponsive or unable to function on their own. If a person is declared brain dead and is a donor, their organs can be harvested immediately and sent to a hospital where they are needed to save life... middle of paper ...... years and If caught on the way back, both the patient and the provider could face serious legal problems. They risk fines or even prison sentences (Budiani-Saberi). Organ trafficking is a dangerous risk people take if they desperately need an organ. Therefore, if we were all givers, we would not need to find desperate sellers and face the dangers. Overall, organ donation is a caring act that can stop death and eliminate organ trafficking. Organ donation has improved over time, which gives no reason not to become an organ donor. More people participating in organ donation is something crucial for society to save the lives of many people. Donations could improve the world by giving people a chance to survive. Make a decision, save lives.
