America and Europe top the list for most waste generated according to Waste (4). This is very visible as there is waste on every city street, as well as in lakes, beaches and rivers. The book Waste by Rob Bowden claims that the amount of waste produced is increasing at a faster rate than population growth. In the UK, around 1.5 million computers are thrown away each year and most end up in landfill. There are 3 types of waste: municipal solid waste, industrial waste and hazardous waste. MSW includes waste from public trash cans and local dumpsters. Industrial waste includes massive amounts of chemically contaminated wastewater. Hazardous waste is the most dangerous because it poses a danger to human health and the environment. Solutions for waste disposal take time as people need to consider their lifestyle and limit the amount of waste they generate. A good start is to recycle items such as paper, cans, plastic and clothing. This way they don't end up in landfills, on beaches or in the streets. Another solution is to join organizations that go around recycling, or organizations that demand the reduction of the quantity of products put on sale.
