Carnegie became one of the leading self-help authorities of the 20th century. Carnegie was inspired to write because of his own disappointments in his personal and professional life. Ironically, his disappointment inspired him to write what is now considered one of the most important self-help books of our time. The cultural and biological foundations of worry What is stress? Physiological stress represents a broad range of physical responses that are a direct result of a stressor causing an interruption in the natural balance of the human body. When such a disturbance occurs, whether psychological or physical, the body's balance responds by stimulating the central nervous system, the endocrine system and the human immune system. The response of these systems causes a number of physical changes that have short- and long-term effects on the body. Members of the health and related professions have devoted the past three decades to researching the specific short- and long-term effects of stress and the effects on the human body. This has led to highly specialized stress assessments and the development of sophisticated coping techniques across all healthcare disciplines. Recent innovations have focused on the fact that stress affects everyone in different ways and that individual differences must be taken into account in the treatment environment. My personal takeaway from reading this book will be to follow Carnegie's wise advice to cultivate a positive mental attitude in my classes and future endeavors. I will not let the little things in life bother me and will strive to accept constructive criticism as a compliment. I will think and act with joy towards my colleagues, which in turn will make me joyful and look forward to the journey of self-realization, remembering to always celebrate who I am, rather than dwelling on what I am not..
