Identifying Information: The client is a fifty-nine year old, white, middle class transgender woman. She is single and lives alone in an apartment that she owns. Cheri is currently unemployed and has just completed training to become an electrologist. She has previous treatment experience having received treatment prior to hormone therapy and gender reassignment. Current Issue: The client said she was “at a crossroads” and “struggling to make financial decisions” about her future. After losing a job for ten years, Cheri recently completed training to become an electrologist and would like to work with other trans women in transition. However, she struggles to make the financial commitment necessary to purchase her own electrolysis equipment. This hesitation led her to doubt her ability to find clients and run a successful business. His current situation has led to feelings of discomfort, anxiety, and uncertainty about his future. These complex emotions left him feeling ambivalent about his business plan. She associates this ambivalence with the depression she experienced when she left ballet in her late thirties. She came to therapy to talk about her fears and her strong hesitation to make an important decision in her life. Cheri said she would find it helpful to have someone to talk to as she explores these fears and considers her professional future. History of Presenting Problem: The client suffered from depression on and off beginning in her early 20s. Her depression eased somewhat when she began abstaining from alcohol, but it often returned complicated by feelings of gender incongruity.
