This report is a summary of the article “What is plagiarism?” » by the Georgetown University Honor Council. It presents in nine points the different reasons and ways to avoid plagiarism. Additionally, it heightens the consequences of failing to properly cite or credit the author of a source. In fact, plagiarizing is much more than copying and pasting someone else's work and passing it off as your own without due credit; this is also the case when developing an idea that is not original in different terms and makes the work appear authentic. The responsibility for avoiding plagiarism lies with the writer; and the line between originality and plagiarism is a fine line that all writers must walk. Be original in presenting your ideas. The feeling of using someone else's words is of great importance because they clearly express the thoughts one wants to express. However, it is not a problem to start a writing process from someone else's work, but giving credit to the source is plagiarism. Also, be careful how you cite, as too many citations...
