Essay / Viola Canales The Tequila Worm - 1244
Just like Sofia, I have an aunt who also covers the sofas in her living room, but not with plastic but with fabric because she thinks they will last longer . “but my things will last forever – and stay brand new too” (Canales 54). I believe this idea is somewhat of a Mexican tradition because I have been to Mexico several times and seen other women whose living room sofa was also covered in fabrics. I always thought they were covered because they had small children and didn't want them to get dirty, just like Sofia's aunt "stops the red river from flowing onto the plastic covered carpet ". (Canales, 57) or because they were torn and wanted them covered. Every time we go to my aunt's house I see her couches covered in the same old fabric, but she always says she covers them so they last longer. I remember when I was younger, like in 5th grade, my mom also had a fabric in an old couch, but the couch was covered because we had a Shih Tzu, and the couch was hers.
