Essay / According to Effective And Active by James Rachel...
Rational suicide is “a duty to die” (Luper and Brown, p. 362). According to Battin, she is against withholding euthanasia treatment from the elderly because it causes earlier deaths and it is not fair that health care towards infants and young people has more benefits. The policy of justice and rationing according to age; no longer making contributions to the elderly and health care should not be available to the elderly (Luper and Brown, p. 363). Battin highlights the work of Norman Daniels; competing resources between young and old people, it uses Rawlsian theories; the veil of ignorance. The policy provides more care for infants and young people, not the elderly (Luper and Brown, p. 364). James Fries “Squaring the Curve” shows that more older people are surviving old age while experiencing trauma. This can help develop policy that provides more benefits to older people; maximize the preservation of life. The Policy of Direct Termination In her essay, she argues for limited health care for the elderly and not for infants and young people. I'm not convinced by his arguments because today there are healthcare resources for seniors like Medicare, and adults (20-somethings) have a hard time getting healthcare.
