  • Essay / Modern Gilded Age: Is the United States in its Golden Age?

When we think of a “golden age,” we think of a time of great achievement. A time when science, politics and economics flourished and scientists and artists enlightened the world with new ideas and innovations. These times are generally associated with the past. But is there a society in its golden age today? Is there a country that has recently experienced great scientific, political, artistic and economic achievements? Personally, I believe that there is one society: the United States. The United States, I believe, has made many great achievements over a long period of time that not only have led me to consider it to be in its golden age, but have also made it a coveted place for people from all over the world; a place known around the world as a land of opportunity. One artistic achievement that can demonstrate that the United States is in its golden age is its highly influential and fast-growing entertainment business, a very important business for American economic activity. American entertainment has been popular around the world, globalizing American pop culture and the American business economy. This globalization is the result of new innovations, developed by the United States itself, which allow cinema, music and television to spread throughout the world. Because the United States is usually the first to have such innovations, the entertainment is generally considered to be of higher quality, thus attracting the greatest number of people. Other factors that have led to the enormous success of its entertainment business include its distribution methods, which are carried out through large and powerful foreign companies, and its vast English-speaking market potential. The great commercial capacity and general international appeal of the American entertainment industry have placed the United States in a "golden middle"......
