  • Essay / Oedipus the King: A painful path to the truth - 742

The truth in Oedipus RexThe play "Oedipus Rex" is, to say the least, very complete and lively. Everything a reader could ask for is included in this piece. There is excitement, suspense, happiness, heartbreak and much more. Truth is the main theme of the play. Oedipus cannot accept the truth as it comes to him or even where it comes from. He is blinded by his own life, trying to ignore the truth of his life. Oedipus will discover that the truth is as solid as rock. The story is mainly about a young man named Oedipus who tries to acquire more knowledge than he can handle. The story begins by telling us that Oedipus has seen his moira, his destiny, and discovers that in the future he will end up killing his father and marrying his mother. Thinking that his mother and father were Polybos and Merope, the only relatives he knew, he ran away from home and went far away so that he could change his destiny and not end up harming his family. Oedipus later discovers that he cannot change fate because he has no control over it, only God can control what happens. Oedipus is a very healthy person with a strong will who will never give up until he gets what he wants. Unfortunately, in this story, these traits will not be good to have. Oedipus continues his journey without knowing what he will do next. During this journey, Oedipus meets people at a railroad crossing and argues with them to the death. After this, he travels to a city named Thebes where he outwits a beast that was cursing the city. He received praise and joy. While gaining the trust of everyone who lived there, he quickly became king of Thebes. People loved him because he was such a great leader. He was such a great king because he had so much love for his people and would do anything in his power to make them happy. As a result, Oedipus discovers that the city is in trouble unless their late king's killer is found and punished. Oedipus does not know that he is the murderer of their late king or that the king was actually his father. Oedipus will strive to get answers, even though he has been warned not to dig too deep, because he will regret it..
