Who is William Faulkner? Today I'm going to introduce you to one of the greatest writers, William Faulkner. Faulkner was known as an influential novelist in the United States in the 20th century. Faulkner was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, an award given only to the most accomplished writers. Faulkner's full name is William Cuthbert Falkner and was born September 25, 1897, in New Albany, Mississippi. However, after several years in New Albany, Faulkner's father decided that the family would settle in Oxford, Mississippi. As a child, Faulkner grew up poor and although he performed well in elementary school, he never graduated from high school. When Faulkner was 17, he was around his mentor Phil Stone, a person who had an important influence on Faulkner's writings. In his early twenties, Faulkner was writing poems and short stories in hopes of having them published. Unfortunately, all were refused. When World War I broke out, Faulkner decided to enlist as an Englishman in the RAF, but he returned to Mississippi when the armistice was declared in November 1918. Although Faulkner returned to school, he declared that he had not accepted. I didn't like school, I started working in a bank and I started writing books. Even though Faulkner had no professional knowledge of literature or writing, his writing style was heavily inspired by other writers. Faulkner wrote his first novel, Soldier's Pay, and was written under the direct influence of Sherwood Anderson, who urged Faulkner to try fiction writing. “Soldier’s Pay” is about a life fragmented because of war and the pain and death of a wounded soldier. William Faulkner not only wrote novels, but also on various subjects. He has written novels, short stories, plays, poetry, essays and screenplays. His... middle of paper...... Ulkner's novels deal with alienated subjects. The definition of alienation is a diversion or estrangement. William Faulkner grew up in the annexation area, he sometimes felt a sense of alienation, so he can describe well what alienation is. Some of his works show that alienation can accompany death. Alienation is a very terrible sense. Most of his works as well as the setting and various racial cultures are also recreated. Because of the diverse perspectives used, William Faulkner focused more on self-reflection than other writers. William Faulkner stood out from other writers. He was more special because he wanted to do everything alone. He didn't compare himself to others and didn't need others. Finally, this leaves us with one of his famous sayings: “Don't bother just being better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.’.
