Whiteness has impacted many aspects of humanity; I want you to think back to your art classes in first, second, and even third grade. The theme of the art always seems to be the same, or at least to me it seems that way. Art in primary and secondary schools is still structured around white culture which appears to be the only thing acceptable, that which has a beautiful sunset, a dog, a family of three and a house behind a beautiful garden and colorful. Looking back on my experiences with art and analyzing the context I learned about in the classroom, it is rare that art is used to illustrate the struggles, social challenges, and lack of resources of minority groups living in disadvantaged areas.
