Dominic MillerMW 1:00-2:50Officiating Theory and Practice - HUPF 3053Training Camp Book ReviewTraining camp is a story of development, c This is also a simple but excellent book. The only thing is that the language and style of the book is very basic. It is written at a high school level, in my opinion, which makes it a very easy and quick read, it was so easy that I read it during my breaks at work. This story is about a guy named Martin Jones, who is a young football player who is trying to get into an NFL team in one of their training camps. “Being part of the team is a goal. But striving for greatness is a life mission. There is a difference, and you have to be honest with yourself and you have to be honest with me” (Gordon 24) . Everything is going well until a disaster strikes and he gets hurt and an injury sidelines him and he has to take time off. This makes him stressed, scared, and unsure of what to do next. So he goes to see the team coach and a trainer, they took care of him. their care and begins to train his mind, and he learns that to be the best he has a lot more to learn on and off the field. What he learns from one of the coaches who takes him under his wing, Coach Ken, is. to that, some lessons that he teaches players so that they can succeed or even be great on and off the field, forever. I've read many books on development since I could read them, and there's always something in them that you can learn from and make you a better person, and this one is no different. Most of the lessons Martin learned in the story, Training Camp, are things I have read and learned in other books I have read, some of his quotes are. very similar to books I have read, like Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life, but because it is in the middle of a paper......it inspires others. A person striving for excellence raises the standards of everyone around them. And they do it both in their work and in their lives” (Gordon 148). By doing these eleven things, you will be well on your way to becoming the best, and maybe the best ever. Basically, the best person has to want it more than the next person and keep training even when everyone else is sleeping. “How to measure desire? Everyone has the desire to accomplish something meaningful and make an impact… The best of the best don't just think about their desire for greatness, they act on it. They have a great capacity for work. They do things that others don't do and spend more time doing them. When everyone is asleep, the best train, think, and improve” (Gordon 40-41). They should also remember the eleven steps highlighted in the book..
