Essay / Essay on the Evolution of Fashion - 2243
In 1907, Annette Kellerman was arrested for wearing a swimsuit that showed her arms and legs (Vintage Fashion Guild). How did society get from that point to where it is today? The first five decades of the 20th century were major factors in such sartorial developments. Each decade has seen specific style changes as well as overall changes. Most of them can be marked by major historical events, which tend to cause big changes in the industry. This was the slow beginning of a major evolution during the first decade of the century. The 1910s marked the beginning of a vast revolution in women's clothing, just as the First World War broke out, which continued into the 1920s. The 1920s were one of the most famous decades in fashion, probably due to the immense air of mystery that surrounds it. The Great Depression is what many people think of when they think of the 1930s, and it also had a big impact on fashion because of people's reaction to it. During the fifth and final decade, war played a major role that led to the Americanization of clothing. Looking back decade after decade, these five pieces were what I consider to be the most monumental when it comes to women's wardrobe. The first half of the 20th century radically changed fashion. This century, however, brought with it the widespread use of magazines, which showed the entire public what was considered "middle of paper... From that point on, there was nothing left to do ". back in fashion. Clothing evolved in the second half of the century, as the fashion world always did, but not as radically as in the first half. Women's styles continued to be freer as women themselves gained more freedoms, but the change was never as great as that of these early decades. The 1900s, 10s, 20s, 30s and 40s had the biggest influence on what people wore and continue to wear, which I believe has happened and always will. Women moved from huge dresses with restrained whalebone pieces to pieces like pants and skirts that showed off the legs of the wearer. There have been many major factors along the way, like war, the downward spiral of the economy, and more wars, and the world is what it is because of them. Each part of the first half of the 20th century led to a massive evolution in fashion..
