Essay / Analysis of advertising tags - 825
Axe is a company offering a range of perfumed products aimed at appealing to young men in society. They started with a line of cologne and have since expanded to include a plethora of affordable products such as their wide variety of soaps, shampoos and deodorants, which has earned them a nice following that keeps coming back. Every product they have on the market promises that beautiful young women will be more attracted to using them. One such product is TAG Body Spray; this ad for TAG is right on track to reach average young men who feel they need a little extra help with women. Using relatable designs, humor, and its well-known promise that it will magically make the wearer desirable to the opposite sex, it effectively addresses the intended audience's need to be entertained and fought by the female population . About the ad is the word "WARNING" in bold red font, which is the largest font on the page and is in the center. Below that, a little disclaimer in all capital letters that reads: "The manufacturers of the new TAG body spray will not be held responsible if a relationship between girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl on girl -Girl-guy action happens. Please always carry the map below. Behind this "warning" is an average-looking young man who is "attacked" in a gymnasium by attractive young women, a volleyball team judging by their uniforms and the net in the background. It is obvious that even if the young man struggles to free himself, he is in no danger. His smile as they tear off his clothes tells a story of excitement over his "plight". Below right is the "card" in question - a small piece of paper meant to be cut out from the middle of the paper......omit that you will be prettier or more interesting, but that you will get females simply by being yourself and using a generous amount of this product. Advertising for TAG Body Spray is intended to entertain rather than inform. The public is supposed to view the ad as humorous and not as a promise to become a “ladies’ man.” However, it is intended to spark curiosity and hope in its intended user that this outcome could eventually happen, at least on a smaller scale. Once they see that the "average guy" in the photo looks a lot like them, they will have a latent feeling that TAG could do the same for them. Having humor as the driving force behind the ad ensures that the target audience will be entertained and will most likely read the entire poster. TAG has succeeded in reaching its target consumer, the young man. Most high school or college students would be encouraged to purchase this product..
