  • Essay / How is racism used in A Raisin in the Sun - 730

How is racism used in A Raisin in the Sun. In the book, there is a lot of racism that separated people from each other. There was nothing that kept people together other than work. It was a big problem and still is because people treat others based on their race. Racism will always exist, even if people think in different ways. It can change from one day to the next if people change their minds. Racism does not only affect black people, but also people from different continents or different religions. In the book A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, the young people suffered from many things. The thing that will be mentioned is how black people are treated, what things they suffered from, and what their society was like. How are black people treated in A Raisin in the Sun? Black people in this story are treated differently than others. Walter tells his mother about what white people do in restaurants: "Mom sometimes when I'm in town and I pass nice, quiet restaurants where the white boys are sitting and talking about things sitting there, making deals worth millions of dollars” (Hansberry58). This quote shows that white people live in good situations and they don't worry about what they will eat when they are hungry like black people. The difference between blacks and whites is so great that whites work and blacks just do something for fun. Walter blames his people through the live “Why? Do you want to know why? Because we are all related to a race of people who don't know how to do anything but moan and pray and have babies” (114). While other people think about their future, they think about having children and other normal things that will not help them in life....... middle of paper ......erry28) . Their living conditions are deteriorating and they don't even have money to pay the teacher. If it was a white person suffering like this, they would get help from someone, but because of racism, no one would help them. Beneatha is frustrated because they don't have money to pay for her education. “I really mean it!” I'm just tired of hearing about God all the time. What does He have to do with anything? Does he pay tuition? (153). Benethat had hope before Walter lost all the money they got from insurance, but now she has nothing left to do, she can't find a medical school that will pay her tuition. schooling. She didn't respect God because of money which means money means a lot to them and in her situation no one helps her. As you say in this paragraph, money is the only thing that changed their lives after owning money so their father had the assurance of losing everything..
