Self-confidence theme in literatureSelf-confidence shows self-confidence. In the stories of "A Slave's Life" by: Frederick Douglass and "The Invisible Man" (The Narrator, The Battle Royale) by: Ralph Ellison with short stories by Black Elk Speaks (High Horse, Crazy Horse and Pipe Boyhood) Translated by: Jim Neidhardt all have characteristics of self-confidence. Self-confidence comes from self-spirit which is the belief in what you have, the essence that keeps you going and the ability to persevere when others do not. These stories contain a narrator and a story of their past experiences. In Black Elk Speaks, several of his short stories (Crazy Horse, Early Boyhood and The Offer of the Pipe) tell us about the Black Elk's experience as Native Americans and how his tribe went through many trials to fight against their enemy, the Wasichus. They fought for their rights, their freedom except in the offering of the pipe. It tells how a beautiful lady gave the boss a blowjob and it only has good things coming out of it. Another short story called "High Horse Courting" tells the story of how High Horse is deeply in love with a beautiful Native American woman and seeks to get the girl any way he can. “The Life of a Slave” chronicles the life of Frederick Douglass and how Mr. Covey treated him like a slave when he was young. Finally, the narrator of "Battle Royale" says that the narrator wants to fulfill his dream of giving his speech to the people and getting a scholarship to a university where he fulfills his dream for his future, but first he is told to fight in a ring with a group of strong and tall people blindfolded and win in order to make his wish come true. All of these stories contain characteristics that are found in the middle of paper...the definition of Spirit of Self. These stories show perseverance, a conviction of purpose. They show self-confidence, confidence in oneself and in one's own abilities and finally, they show the essence, to characterize or identify something. These features all make their dream come true and never want to stop. There are people in the world who try to settle on what you want to do in life, but on their soul, their mind and their imagination; they drive to be where they want to be. It's not just about having everything in the world, nor about having money and success that a certain person doesn't deserve. It's about achieving your goal, realizing your dream, and motivating yourself to get where you want to be. This is how Spirit of Self concludes. This will always remain its definition: the self-confidence you have within yourself, your essence that allows you to continue in the world and the ability to persevere when others do not...
