It is a complex conflict that has put this nation through one of its worst periods. It struck at the heart of the political, economic, and social aspects of American life. The Civil War had a tremendous impact on American history because it ended slavery, it led to military inventions, and it united the North and South. The Civil War impacted many events in history and one of the major events happens to be the end of slavery. . On December 6, 1865, eight months after the end of the Civil War, the United States accepted the 13th Amendment to the Constitution which prohibited the practice of slavery. Once the 13th Amendment was approved, it was the beginning of a new nation with the abolition of slavery in American life. This law that was added to the constitution really woke everyone up to the fact that much needed change was actually going to happen with the end of slavery. With the 13th Amendment finally passed, the end of slavery became real. The union won at Antietam, which was a step in the right direction to defeat supporters of slavery. On September 22, 1862, following the sensational Union victory at Antietam, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. This affirmed “that all persons held as slaves” during the Rebel States period “are and hereafter shall be free (Emancipation, Records of US). » The proclamation also called for the recruitment and installation of black military units within the Union forces. . It had an impact on American history because it ended the issue of slavery, it led to a new army. inventions, and it brought the north and south together into the nation it is today, the United States of America.
