The 5000 year old healing system of Ayurveda is based on the working of three units, namely three Dosha, seven Dhatu and Mala. These three units are fundamental to proving the balance of mind, soul and body. Dosha is the physiology and psychological characteristics found in an individual, Mala is the metabolic end product, dhatus are the tissues present in the body. Seven Dhatus in AyurvedaDhatu is a Sanskrit word meaning "that which binds together", relating to the tissues of the body. responsible for the functioning of metabolism and organs, as well as the structure of the body. Each Dhatu receives its nourishment from the food (digestive system) and supports the sussceive tissues. Mainly, there are seven Dhatus (tissues) in the body, as it is called in Sanskrit Saptadhatus. Studying the seven Dhatus is essential for healing the body and mind, as the Dhatus form the pillars on which the human body is built. The Saptadhatus are as follows: Rasa: The main function of the preliminary dhatu, Rasa, is to circulate nutrients to each part of the body. Rasa is the juice produced by the digestive system after digesting food. This juice or plasma enters the bloodstream, nourishes cells and tissues and strengthens the blood. The juice is then transformed into blood.Rakta: Rakta literally meaning blood serves many vital functions of the body. When Rasa dhatu is metabolically refined, it transforms into Rakta Dhatu. The Rakta dhatu is responsible for keeping the human body alive. The vitality of the body is ensured thanks to the circulation of blood, which nourishes the cells and tissues. Rakta dhatu includes white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and plasma.
