St Cross is a relatively small egalitarian college, established in 1965 and offers places to 500 postgraduate students from over 50 countries, giving it a pleasant international flavor: around 70% of students students come from abroad. The motto of St Cross reflects the student mix and the ambition of the establishment “Ad quattour cardines mundi”, “To the four corners of the earth”. A wide range of academic subjects are covered in both the sciences and the arts. the college encouraging its members to forge connections across subjects in order to create thoughtful and productive relationships. Fellows and students blend into a community that enjoys an equal share of all social facilities, with no separate high table or senior common room. The board of directors is composed of both fellows and student representatives. The site is located in St Giles, just off the town center to the north, but within walking distance of the Bodleian Library. It is a modern and progressive establishment housed in a beautiful traditional setting. In addition to this central location, the college has an annex in St Cross Road and three college houses, all providing comfortable accommodation for men and women. Created for postgraduate students, St Cross College and Iffley College (now Wolfson) were established by the university to meet the needs of students. to meet the needs of a growing number of graduate students who, in the 1960s, needed a college to continue their education. The original location was on St Cross Road, just south of the church of the same name. At first, only five graduate students were admitted and would have enjoyed the pleasures of a common room, dining room and kitchen, all housed in a temporary wooden cabin, along with the college office.Reloc ...... middle of paper... ...dislikes the migration from St Cross to St Giles and acknowledges that both sites contained mulberry trees. The original St Cross site was not neglected and for a time housed the Center for Islamic Studies. In 1996 the site, now shared with Brasenose, was built over two accommodation blocks, one for each college. Mentor SchemeSt Cross provides a senior “in-house” member who acts as a mentor to members. Graduates from other universities are also offered a junior mentor, to add a little local knowledge: where the best library is, which pub has the best beer and how to take up rowing even though St Cross n doesn't have its own team. St Cross recently supplied three rugby players to the university team which traveled to Canada..
