  • Essay / The National Identification System - 1321

Definition of national identity cards and how they are usedThe national identification system which I call NIS is a form of identity card which is a "portable document, usually a laminated card with digitally embedded information” ( Rouse, 2010). Most of us carry some form of NIS that confirms our identity, such as our driver's license. The National Identification System (NIS) card uses a type of biometric system like the iris to help identify the person; one organization that uses this form of identification is the United States Bureau of Immigration. My green card contains my biometric fingerprint and information such as when I first arrived in the United States and whether I was here as a resident or here in the United States on a visa. My card also lets anyone who asks for my ID know when it will expire, just like our driver's licenses, unless I let the mines expire I could be deported if I can't prove I have the right to be in the United States. This form of identification helps us work in the United States, apply for a social security card, obtain financial aid and a driver's license to name a few, but if this information is not available When we travel in certain parts of the United States and we are stopped for an identity check, it can create a problem we all fear: being detained by immigration until they can verify our identity or we deport if information cannot be traced that we are here legally. Is it possible or impossible to save the information contained on a high-tech national ID card? It is impossible to save our information generally, so it would be impossible to save our information on a national ID card.
