  • Essay / Liberals vs. Conservatives - 801

Liberals and conservatives vary on many levels; an interesting category of differences is that of preferences. Those who identify on either the left or the right tend to be divided between many aspects of their lives, including politics, art, humor, food, and leisure (Hibbing, Smith, & Alford, 2013) . Accompanying a shift in entertainment toward a focus on spectacle has come a shift in dating culture. A man would no longer call on a woman (mostly during awkward office hours) to pursue his interest in marriage. Instead, a man now invited a woman on a date: a public encounter in which he could assert his dominance by paying for things and impress the woman through various restaurants, movies, and other activities (Weigel & Ahern , 2014). Moderates are included to serve as a baseline type for determining the accuracy of variation, if any, between preferences. In order to accurately measure differences between left and right, a pre-test should be administered to validate political preferences. This test could also be used to identify the strength or extent most likely to occur in subjects' partisan positions. A self-assessment test should then be created using the preferences and patterns already distinguished between the two parties. Self-assessment will provide much more precision...... middle of article ...... differences between liberals and conservatives. Works cited Bourland, R. (2008).
