    Anna's parents were immigrants from a communist country. The country was very poor, so many items considered expensive were considered cheap in America; education is one of these objects. They would dream of starting a new life without opposition to individual freedom. When Anna's parents came to America, they arrived with the few material possessions they could bring, including their high school diplomas. They went to college to learn English so they could live their new lives. However, they faced many difficulties along the way. Even with the little education they had received, they endured ridicule, language and cultural problems, and hard work with their pay barely above the minimum. They understood this because they knew that hard work meant freedom and that with their level of education it was difficult to find a good job. They would never want their offspring to suffer like them. For this reason, they vowed that education would be their children's top priority. Ever since Anna could remember, she and her siblings would go from school to school, year after year, hoping that their parents would stop forcing them to make new friends. Each school was supposed to be more difficult than the last. Every first day of their new school, as well as every other day, Anna's mother would say, "Education is the path to success." » This was supposed to encourage Anna to continue working hard and hope for a bright future. It was supposed to help her think about the future, why she was getting an education, and how that education would help her. Anna, throughout elementary school, never understood. Is education a “road”? Could it “work” on education? If so, will it succeed? It seems easy! Of course, it wasn't until middle school that she analyzed her mother's favorite saying. A road can be smooth or hard, and in the case of America, the “road” to education is hard. There will be rain, houses, obstacles, the sun and the moon, wind and bumps. The rain represents the negative feelings Anna felt when her grades were unsatisfactory. Homes are essential places to learn, eat and rest. The sun and moon represent the guidance provided by one's teachers and parents. Obstacles, such as bugs, symbolize the need to overcome a challenge or a bully in order to move forward with the day...
