Essay / The Study of Human Race and Ethnicity - 2049
Physical and biological anthropologists have proven that the human race does indeed exist and is valid. Thanks to modern bone analysis techniques such as mid-face measurements and femur features for example, we are now able to distinguish the biological background of different Homo sapiens. Forensic anthropologists identify human remains based on their race. Race is key to science. The biggest misconception about race is racism. Race has become this controversial topic and considered taboo in today's society. Many argue that race is not actually the way to define human origin/culture. The opposition claims that environmental adaptation is the main reason for our emergence. The environment alone will not answer the question. Does the environment affect our brain? Does the environment affect our IQ level? Race is unfairly linked to the category of racism due to horrible and unfortunate human actions in the past. The subject brings immediate reflection on African-American slavery; where is the dreaded topic to discuss. As individuals, we must educate ourselves to accept the reality of our lives and know what race exists. There's nothing wrong with that. We should be proud of our ethnicity and appreciate other ethnicities. The beauty of life is that we all come from unique ancestries and variety must be cherished to form unity. You will find time and time again that no one wants to talk about the word race. Race is something that we have to think doesn't exist. It's taboo to talk about it. Scientists will say that race does not exist, and yet throughout medical science you will see that genetics and race all have some sort of existence. "They can identify the skeletons as to their racial origins, but... middle of paper... they are biased towards other races. Race is the reality of life and it is something we should be proud of in order to keep our uniqueness alive. If belief in race is eliminated, so will various races. Take for example Native Americans or “American Indians”. The Native American race is the original race that lived long before the birth of the United States. Due to harsh environments, disease and war, their population numbers have declined significantly. Only a few pure Native American tribes live to this day. Essentially, the Native American race disappears over generations. Should we forget this race? If we refer to Americans by a specific name, like North Americans for example, we classify hundreds of ethnicities as one. Many races that are no longer visible to the public eye will be forgotten forever.
