The Assassination of President LincolnThe assassination of President Lincoln was so tragic because Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth both thought they were doing the right thing. Abraham Lincoln wanted freedom for all because he thought it was right. He knew that not everyone agreed and that this was why America was in civil war, but he felt it was the right thing to do. John Wilkes Booth believed that there should be slaves in the South and strongly disagreed with President Lincoln. He thought everyone really agreed with his way of thinking but were too afraid to stop him. John Wilkes Booth thought he was doing the right thing, he thought people would love and honor him for killing Lincoln. It's interesting how different people can have such different views on the same events. Abraham Lincoln knew he was going to die for his beliefs and he did. John Wilkes Booth thought he would be honored for killing President Lincoln, but he was not. When the South found out that Lincoln had been elected president, they were upset because they thought he was going to take away all their slaves and they would run. they no longer have money for their business.
