Essay / An analysis of Jurassic Park - 1440
Melissa BergerMrs FeuchtEnglish 4April 20, 2014Jurassic ParkJurassic Park and other similar films or articles seem to make people aware of the possible hidden distrust that accompanies scientific development. This distrust can shock people when they see where science is heading and what power lies behind what it can do. With the "profit" motive in Jurassic Park, I believe it is the same motive used by companies that support genetically modified organisms. An example of this was when, in the film Harvest of Fear, Greenpeace sent a letter to Gerber expressing concern about the discovery of a genetically modified ingredient in its products. Gerber never responded to them, so they decided to announce it to the public, and a few weeks later, Gerber announced that it would stop using genetically modified ingredients in its products. This change showed consumers that large companies can easily shut down production almost overnight and not have to go through years of government regulations to get something done. What was needed to generate the reaction was to make them fear losing some of their market share. Although some companies claim to want to help countries out of famine, in reality this is just a band-aid to cover up the real motive. Why do we want to use the people of these countries as guinea pigs for the experimentation of the GMO movement? Do scientists not trust their results? Don't they believe that what they are doing is really to help? One example that could be a potential problem and could cause chaos is when foods, particularly vegetables, are injected with an animal gene that has been determined to allow vegetables to stay fresh longer. .
