    Public health policy is a regulated legislative action taken to achieve health care goals within a society. It outlines priorities with specific, achievable goals to improve community health. The public health model chosen concerns nutrition and physical activity. It highlights statistics and describes the goals that have been set to achieve a healthier school environment. This public health policy also sparked proactivity within the Los Angeles school system and motivated the superintendent and school board to implement appropriate actions to present students with healthier alternatives. An analysis of this policy will highlight the benefits, feasibility and implications in order to evaluate and determine its effectiveness. According to the Center for Disease Control, childhood obesity has doubled among children and more than quadrupled among adolescents over the past 30 years (CDC, 2014). This alarming fact highlights the importance of tackling childhood obesity and the urgent approach to collectively engage as many sectors as possible to implement different strategies to manage the rampant rise in obesity. . Physical activity and good nutrition promote optimal growth and development in children (CDC, 2014). Schools are the main sites for implementing these public health strategies aimed at combating obesity and physical inactivity. Although other sectors can also be involved in reducing the steady rise in childhood obesity, schools are a great place to start. Children spend the majority of their time in school, and the applications learned during school are what they will learn to use throughout their lives. Practicing physical wellness requires a lot of teaching and coaching, as does learning anything that will be used throughout life. Implementing policy to improve conditions improves healthier eating options along with teaching guides for physical education are an excellent strategy to tackle childhood obesity head on. However, a more strategic plan should be implemented in order to make greater progress and improvements. The policy implemented by the Los Angeles City School Board covers several different areas of nutrition and physical activity, which is a great place to start. With this and other community initiatives and greater progress in the right direction, there will be an effective decrease in childhood obesity in the years to come..
