    MADD is a political interest group bringing together all mothers against drunk driving. It was specifically created for mothers of children who have been victims of drunk drivers, whether injured or killed. Founded on September 5, 1980, MADD today has had a tremendous impact on government and an even greater impact on society. The idea for MADD was first introduced by a mother, Candice Lightner, who lost her thirteen-year-old daughter in a car accident killed by a drunk driver. She took action and initiative after the loss of her daughter to help prevent drunk driving accidents so that other parents would not have to experience the grief of losing a loved one , especially their son or daughter. From raising awareness to helping pass laws like Kyleigh's Law in New Jersey, the women of MADD have made a name for themselves as persistent, successful mothers who are committed to make the roads a safe place for their children, now and in the future. the future. Mothers Against Drunk Driving and their foundation have saved over 300,000 lives to date through their growing foundation and law enforcement. At the start of their path to success, MADD's mission statement was "to assist victims of crimes committed by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to assist the families of these victims and to raise public awareness of the problem of alcohol and drug consumption. " (MADD,1) When MADD first came together in 1980, they originally called themselves Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
