  • Essay / The First Republic - 802

In the late 18th century, America became a new, independent nation with a new form of government that differed from all other nations in the world. Our founders, Madison, Jefferson, Adams and others, created our Constitution and Bill of Rights that would prevent America from becoming a monarchy like Great Britain. In our Constitution, there are seven fundamental principles that ensure that power will not vest in a single person or group, thereby creating a Democratic Republic. This new notion marked the beginning of a period of growth and development. America began to develop a distinct and unique culture influenced by the Revolution. It is a system that allows each branch of government to limit the powers of other branches to prevent abuse of power by concentrating too much power in a single person or institution. Together, these principles aim to intentionally create ineffective government so that the people have a say in the decisions made in Washington. Madison believed that we should not act impulsively. He thought we should think about our decisions and have them approved..
