Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai LamaIn recent decades, there have been many political problems in Tibet. This can be attributed to the ongoing problem between Tibet and China. Tibet had already been faced, for many years, with the occupation of its territory by the forces of the People's Republic of China. This was very alarming to many people, including the highly respected Dalai Lama of Tibet. The Dalai Lama was a very influential person in the history of Tibet and many of the decisions he made directly affected the outcome of certain situations relating to relations between Tibet and China. The Dalai Lama, in Tibetan Buddhism, is a lineage of reborn people. magistrates which dates back to the year 1391. Each time an old Dalai Lama dies, a new one is chosen. Beginning in the 17th century, the Dalai Lama was appointed head of the Tibetan government, ruling much of the country from his capital, Lhasa. The Dalai Lama is considered the supreme leader of Tibetan Buddhism and many leaders consider the Dalai Lama to be the highest lama in Tibetan traditions. When the previous Dalai Lama died, his monks began searching for the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama as a small child. The monks take a lot of consideration and conduct very thorough research to make their findings as accurate as possible. Familiarity with the possessions belonging to the previous Dalai Lama is considered the main sign of reincarnation. The current Dalai Lama was born as Lhamo Thondup, the son of Choekyong and Diki Tsering. Monks began searching for him shortly after the death of the thirteenth Dalai Lama. He has developed numerous proposals for the solution of international conflicts, human rights issues and global environmental problems. Among the Nobel Peace Prize winners, the Dalai Lama has received numerous other prizes and distinctions. The Dalai Lama's philosophy is to live a peaceful, non-violent life. He believes that tolerance is the cure for hatred in the heart and against violence. For him, tolerance is an important virtue and it allows people to refrain from reacting with anger and harming others. The Dalai Lama has, since his accession to the head of Tibet, been a very influential person in this country. His decisions affected hundreds of thousands of people. He has many followers who hope that one day his peaceful ways will lead to Tibetan independence...
