    The decline and disappearance of traditional monarchies in the 19th and 20th centuries opened the way for the rule of other individuals and/or groups. The three main dictators of World War II were Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. The quest for gain over cultural, economic and political factors related to people and land constitutes the main objective of dictators. To achieve their goals, they eliminate anything that gets in their way. Joseph Stalin, Russian communist and general of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1929 to 1953. Drastic agricultural and economic reforms were imposed to prepare Russia for the fight against capitalism. “He ruled through fear and millions of his citizens died under his brutal rule” (“Joseph Stalin,” p. 1). In 1930, Benito Mussolini took control of Italy, while Adolf Hitler took control of Germany. After the death of Vladimir Lenin, a Russian communist revolutionary, politician and political theorist, Stalin outmaneuvered his rivals and took control of the Communist Party. In the late 1920s he became dictator of the Soviet Union. Then he wanted to industrialize the country because at the time the economy was agricultural. Millions of farmers were reluctant to comply with Stalin's orders and were killed as a penalty. Civilization caused widespread famine through the Soviet coalition and killed millions of people. Stalin wanted to kill anyone who opposed his orders. He spawned an army of secret police and tricked citizens into spying on others, resulting in many people being killed or sent to a labor camp.
