  • Essay / Latinas and Higher Education in the United States

Traditionally, Latina women are not encouraged to pursue higher education. However, I watched my sister go to college and become a dentist in Mexico, which is why I want to research how many Latina women in the United States are pursuing higher education. During my research, I discovered that more and more Latinas are going to college, and more and more Latinas are prioritizing college over love. They want to become self-sufficient, but along the way, some Latinas still drop out of high school. The first part of my research showed that more Latina women are going to college and their graduation rates have increased faster than any other group of women. women. According to Maresshah Jackson (Center for American Progress), November 7, 2013. Graduation rates for Latinas were 31.3 percent in 2010, which remains significantly lower than the graduation rate for white women , at 45.8 percent. However, Latinas make up the fastest-growing female population in the country, but the college graduation rate remains lower. Jackson said Latinas hold only 4.4 percent of earned degrees. Because of these low credentials, note some, famous people such as actress Eva Longoria have donated money and time to the University of Los Angeles to hire more Latino professors to help further of Latinas to obtain a college education. Second, some Latinas prioritize college before women who love and marry see college as a way out of poverty and don't want the pressure of a boyfriend or husband. Most Latino men don't want an overly educated wife or girlfriend. According to the ABC News study: Latinas Girls, http:||abcnews.go.com|US|story?id=94298&page=1, most Latinas want to finish their education and then get married, because "the more you learn, the more you earn. » An example is Dr. Jo...... middle of paper...... like a real Latina.
