Essay / Final Paper on the Moral Life - 1837
While softball has not been my whole life, it has played an extremely important role in the formation of almost everything that has made me who I am today today. I started at the age of seven, went through middle school, high school, spent eight years around travel ball and now I'm currently playing in college. I coached recreational league teams and college teams when I was in high school, and I want to continue coaching after obtaining an MBA in sports management. The sports industry always faces dilemmas, whether ethical or moral. At some point I want to be a college coach, it doesn't matter if it's at a Division 1 school or even a junior college, I will always be faced with players who make decisions that not only hinder them but hinder the team . GOOD. To help me later in the future, I was faced with a moral dilemma that might arise when I was a college coach. I am in my first year as a head coach at San Diego State University. I spent seven years as an assistant coach at the college level, but eventually made it to head coaching. Halfway through my freshman year, I was approached by the roommate of a girl on my team who told me she wasn't going to play anymore because she was going to the hospital for emotional distress. I asked my players and assistant coaches if they knew what was going on with Alyssa, the girl who was going to the hospital for emotional distress. My players and coaches acted like they didn't know anything, but I had a feeling something was going on, so I decided to go to the hospital to see Alyssa. After the hospital visit, I found out that she felt like she didn't have a place on the team because the players were...... middle of paper..... . resolve this situation wisely without using tactics that the coach would not want to use if they were in the same situation. The problem with the golden rule is that it would require loopholes for someone to use it to determine what to do with players. Another theory we learned that could be used to resolve this dilemma is the theory of cultural relativism. . The theory says that a certain human being's individual beliefs and actions should reflect his or her own culture. Again, this is extremely tricky to use because every individual in the world has different cultures and/or ideas about their own culture. If the coach were to use this theory, then he would be using the cultural aspect he learned growing up to deal with the players, and the head coach and assistant coaches might not agree on such an outcome due to of the difference in cultural relativism..
