Romanticism gives insight and depth to what we know about the characters and their journeys. The introduction of romance allows the reader of Jane Eyre to better understand Jane's subjectivity, primacy, and inspirations throughout the book. Inspiration is the contributing factor in Jane Eyre as to why Jane is who she is now. Jane Eyre's inspiration comes from many different characters and objects that she encounters along the way that lead her to be where she is at the end of the novel. Helen Burns, for example, is one of her inspirations because Helen is the reason why Jane is calm and docile after meeting her. "it was as if a martyr, a hero, had encountered a slave or a victim, and had given him strength during the transit... Helene burns... returned to her place and smiled at me again as she passerby.”(Bronte 72).By simply smiling at Jane, Helen had transformed Jane into someone who is now able to take her punishment quietly and without protest. Helen stopped Jane from randomly saying things that could get her in trouble and Helen made Jane think and process what she was going to say before she said it. “Miss Temple, through all the changes, had hitherto remained superintendent of the seminary; to his instruction I owed the best part of my knowledge; his friendship and society had been my continued comfort; she had held me in the place of mother, of governess. , and latterly, companion." (Bronte 92) Miss Temple helps Jane after the death of Helen Burns by helping her through things.
