Essay / Book Review: The Kite Runner - 1113
The Kite Runner written by Khaled Hosseini is about a man named Amir who lives in modern-day San Francisco. It recounts his childhood in Afghanistan and the events that followed after an incident he witnessed as a child 26 years earlier. The story begins when he tells readers that when he was a child, he lived with his father, Baba, in Kabul, Afghanistan, with Ali, the Hazara housekeeper, and her son and Amir's "friend", Hassan . Amir lived a sad life always trying to get his father's attention, which led him to betray Hassan one winter's day. After that day things started to change, Amir, who was suffering from guilt, forced Hassan and Ali to leave the house. A few years later, Amir and Baba had to flee Afghanistan due to a military invasion taking place there. They travel and migrate to Fremont, California. Over the years, Amir obtained a degree in English and lived peacefully with Baba. He soon found a woman, Soraya, whom he met at a local flea market. They get married and move into the apartment where Amir and Baba lived. As the months go by, Baba gets very sick, he soon dies, but before he does, he tells Amir while he was crying, that he was trying to raise Amir. to be able to be independent of him. After that, Amir and Soraya move to San Francisco, where Amir receives a phone call from Rahim Khan. Rahim Khan is an old friend of Baba and used to come to their house in Kabul all the time. He tells Amir what happened to Afghanistan after he left and tells him that there was a way to become good again. After much thought, Amir decided it was time to return to Afghanistan to atone for fleeing Hassan when he was in trouble with...... middle of paper...... United States. Amir and Baba's journey reminds me of the stories my mother told me when she left her home country of Vietnam to travel to America. She was also leaving because of a war going on in Vietnam, and she had to go through many difficult obstacles before finally reaching the United States. Plus, when Amir was trying to get Baba's attention, it also reminded me of how I always try. to get my father's attention when I was young. When I was about five years old, my father never seemed to pay attention to me, he was always more busy working than playing with me. Now that I look back, my father worked very hard so that I had nice things that other children had, just like Baba worked hard so that Amir could go to school. In conclusion, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is one of the few novels I have read in which I can tell my thoughts and my life..
