Essay / Anthem Analysis - 717
In Anthem's story, many people continue in their society of equality, basically no one can have their own identity or anything that sets them apart from others. Think of a neighborhood where every house looks exactly the same, with nothing different from one another. The idea of dictators is that if everyone was the same then everyone would be easier to control, everyone would not be jealous of each other because everyone would have the same things. What's strange about the Anthem book is the fact that the children are separated from their parents, meaning they will never be close or attached to each other in any way. The beginning of life in this society begins each year in the House of Mates. winter is basically where two random people come together to mate and have a child. Once the child is born he is taken to the Children's Home to be cared for by others, he is not cared for by his parents. The child will eventually grow up and will have to enter the Student House. Here at the Student House, they are taught about transgressions and sins very early. For example, you can't have any creativity. Finally, the now adult will be taken to the House of Scholars where their task and contribution to society will take place. If this person were smarter than others, they would have a simple job that anyone could do, unlike that of a scientist or researcher, because the dictator of society does not want smart people to hand over question their society and their way of life. create this arrangement as it would help keep parents and children at peace. If parents didn't know their child, they would have no reason to fight...... middle of paper ...... ly member. Children's personalities are often shaped by how their parents have treated them over time, either by encouraging them to develop their skills or telling them that they would never succeed in life. Many were taken from their parents as babies, and never met their parents, and so no bond is created between family members. Many of these children will never have the opportunity to truly spend time with a family. They will never dream, never strive for the best things in life, and never question a thing about their society. Separating children from their parents is an example of oppression and depriving a population of parental influence and a sense of luxury and security. Raised in the Children's Home, these children flourish under these tyrants and acquire mentalities from them because they have no other influence from their parents or family in their lives..
