As I Meet Myself: Perceptions of Myself Through the Interactions of OthersAs a collective group of peers, we perceive things from a certain day without necessarily knowing the basic information. We judge ourselves and others constantly, and often based solely on our perception. The result of perceiving things a certain way can be positive or negative. It depends on how we do it, when and how often. After reading and reviewing this chapter carefully, I have gained some very useful knowledge. This information helped me break down and analyze things about myself as well as others. I have constructed an ideal conception of myself, of who I am, and of who the people I surround myself with are. Little by little, I became more self-aware, realizing who I really am as an individual and that I am much more than what people perceive me to be. One of the methods I used was the concept of the Johari Method. I also realized that perception is one of the most important aspects of communication and if it was used effectively, the world would be a better place. Self-concept plays an important role. important role in the way things are perceived and in our understanding of life as we know it. Throughout high school, I began to develop a sense of who I was. High school was a long journey and at the end I thought I had it all figured out. Shortly after graduating, I found out that wasn't the case. I am a completely different person now than I was at that point in my life. Just when I thought I had found myself, I found myself in situations that made me question my beliefs and the way things were perceived. I entered college right after high school. During the first periods of post-secondary study, it gave me an even broader perspective...... in the middle of the article ......stated that "the path to oneself is through the discernment” (quoted in Low, 1997). I find this statement to be true. Having an unobtrusive understanding of my surroundings helps me better understand who I am as an individual and how I interact as a collective in perceiving and understanding myself and the rest of the world. if we do this effectively, it opens the way to peace, unity and intimacy of self. If I have true understanding, it will create peace in my mind, but if everyone has true understanding, it can create peace in humanity. Joseph A.
