Covey calls this approach the “true north” principle. Steven Covey begins by introducing the idea of Paradigm Shift which prepares the audience for a mindset shift. Coven states that when faced with the same situation or thing, it is quite possible that two people will see that situation differently. After preparing the reader's mind, Covey presents his seven distinctive habits in an orderly manner. He discusses these habits in different chapters. These habits are represented by three main imperatives, including independence, interdependence and continuous improvement. The first three habits include “Be proactive; “Beginning with the end in mind and putting first things first” encompass movements from a state of dependence to a state of autonomy. The first habit “Be Proactive” suggests that readers should take strong initiatives in life by realizing that decisions are the key determining factor that reflects the effectiveness of individuals in life. Individuals must therefore take responsibility for their choices and their potential consequences. The second habit that says “Begin with the end in mind” ensures that individuals must deeply discover and clarify their important characters, goals, objectives and values in their lives. In this regard, individuals should be able to predict ideal personalities for each of their different relationships and roles in life. The third habit “Put First Thing First” explains that individuals, especially managers, must be able to manage their own personality. This author has extensively covered all the potential aspects necessary for the development and growth of the individual. Furthermore, the author manages to express his point of view in an explicit and crucial manner. The book is therefore not only interesting to read but also touches on various aspects of life and society. The book is therefore extremely relevant to the growth and development of the individual. However, it is important to note that the book focuses only on people who have jobs. the unemployed are somehow left out, as the book tends to focus more on labor relations and institutional factors than on personal factors..
