He later wrote an 80-page treatment of the film which was presented at Warner Bros. after the completion of "Insomnia". The treatment presented was based on lucid dreaming. This means that the person dreaming is aware of it and understands that it is not real. During this time, the dreamer is able to control everything inside to some extent. The idea was complicated and presenting it to the public is not an easy task. For the sake of the film, Christopher Nolan decided he needed more time and experience before completing such a complex production. Nolan pulled out of production and instead worked on his other projects like Batman and The Prestige. Fortunately the treatment was revised and purchased in 2009 by Warner Bros after the enormous success of “The Dark Knight” which grossed $1 billion worldwide. In the story, as Saito appears again, he explains that this was all just a test and that Cobb passed it. Saito offers him a deal: if Dom is able to do the job, he might be able to return to his family back home. The work is not easy, but the risk is worth it for his family. The deal is this: If Cobb is able to make a start, his criminal record will disappear. The idea is to implant an idea in a targeted mind and make it believe that the idea belongs to it. The conversation between Saito and Cobb ends with a quote that is also found later in the film "So... do you want to take a leap of destiny or become an old man filled with regrets, waiting to die alone?" Of course, Cobb has to take the deal because –, 38(2), 147–166.
