Psychiatrists never abandon any of their patients and always help anyone who asks. Psychiatrists have endless work schedules. Sometimes their patients even call them without an appointment because they are really in trouble and they need to go talk to them. Psychiatrists must also have completed at least eight years of education and three or more additional years of internship (“Career Information Center” 142-43). The psychiatrist must also have good communication skills. If they don't, their patient will feel like they don't care or listen and the psychiatrists will put even more pain and pressure on them (social skills training) . Although psychiatrists must undergo many years of education and training, all of their hard work pays off knowing that they are helping people every day. Psychiatrists are doctors who help patients in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of any mental disorder. Psychiatrists can treat patients with a range of disorders from mild anxiety to those with severe disorders that can lead to dangerous behavior for anyone suffering from mental retardation, or for anyone also suffering from alcoholism. Psychiatrists can also prescribe medications to their patients because they are doctors. They undergo many years of training to be able to recognize the link between mental disorders and physical disorders. Psychiatrists may work with their patients in their own private practices or in hospitals and clinics. Psychiatrists may also teach at a medical school or research and study causes and treatments...... middle of paper ...... improve their lives. Psychiatrists have a never ending work schedule, dramatically improve people's lives and have to go to school for 8+ years and work very hard for their patients. Psychiatrists have one of the hardest jobs throughout their career and their work never stops, but they are constantly helping others and changing their lives.
