However, most importantly, we must be able to distinguish between hunger and appetite. I'm sure everyone has already confused the two. I'm also sure that was a major influence for the "Half Ton World" people. Hunger is our physical need to eat and occurs every 4 to 6 hours. Whereas appetite is our psychological desire to eat. Appetite can arise when you smell delicious food, at the time of day and through our eating habits. I fully recognize that appetite controls my life. It's extremely difficult not to eat the brownies I see on the table or not order the popcorn I smell at the movie theater. I also know that when you come home from school, your appetite wakes up. In all of these cases, I'm not hungry, but I want to eat. For the people of "Half Ton World", this strong desire for control coupled with other psychological problems such as loneliness is a trap. In some cases, it's easy for people to override fullness. I can also understand this concept. For example, some foods can only be prepared on a special occasion or on a certain day of the year. I'm guilty of this in the run-up to Christmas. Many prepared meals are only served at Christmas, so I indulge in excess and put my satiety aside. It's because the food is so good and my mind enjoys it too much to let my stomach take control. For those who are so passionate about food, I can understand the feeling. However, it is important not to let this feeling take control of our daily lives. If we put satiety aside and let appetite control our lives, obesity is sure to arise.
