  • Essay / The role of evil in Macbeth - 570

Evil is everywhere. Some people don't want to hurt others and don't want to care about others. Some people can convince others to make the wrong choice or make a big mistake. Sometimes people don't know what position to take or what decision to make. This is why there are people who can convince others to do something bad, like murder. Obviously, Macbeth is a weak person because his inability to think led him to kill. He didn't think about what would happen if he killed. He listened to someone who wanted to convince him to do something terrible. Lady Macbeth is the one who led Macbeth to kill, by convincing him that he would be king by murdering King Duncan. He chooses treason and crime, knows them for what they are, and is fully aware that he is doing evil. Lady Macbeth is the one who is truly tempted. Lady Macbeth. To deceive time, To resemble time; be welcomed in your eyes, in your hand and in your tongue; look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent underneath. (I, VV, 70-75). Lady Macbeth is less aware of this difference between good and evil. She tries to tell Macbeth to feign loyalty to King Duncan. She fought for the kingdom, the power to rule and to be queen. Macbeth is worried, scared, and undecided about what to do. He is a weak person and cannot contain his actions. She convinced him it was murder. “Macbeth. I'm settled in and poring over every terrible feat of body agent. Far away, and mock time with the most beautiful spectacle; the false face must hide what the false heart knows” (I, IV, 93-95). Macbeth is a victim of evil because he is weak and does not think for himself, influenced by those around him.
