  • Essay / My desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning

My grandfather was a civil servant with a fixed, regular income and he always wanted to do something big with his money. Additionally, he was reading different articles related to stocks, portfolio management, and other financial opportunities that he could invest in to create multiple sources of income. Growing up watching my grandfather invest his time and income, I understood that the process of earning and learning has no end. People are always looking for ways to save, invest, and increase their income, but it's not a piece of cake for everyone. I want to learn how the practical importance of modern financial theory can be put into practice and how I can use different tools to conduct theoretical and applied research in this area. To achieve my long-term goal of teaching and conducting research, I would like to pursue a doctorate in personal financial planning. I will graduate in May 2019 with a master's degree in finance from the University of Nevada, Reno. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on “Why Violent Video Games Should Not Be Banned”? For example, as part of the Research Methods in Finance section, I performed various analyzes using SAS based on monthly data from December 1997 to December. 2017 for ordinary common stock traded on the NYSE. Positive Correlation of Betas with Stock Returns in US Stock Market, Fama and French Three Factor Model, Performance Difference Between Value and Growth Investing in US Stock Market were the analysis I did for my project . Similarly, I had to write a paper for my real estate finance class with the group of people and we chose the topic “Relationships Between Student Debt and Homeownership Among Millennials in the United States and China ". We collected data and performed regression analysis for this article. I believe this type of analysis, along with many other practical skills and training I learned during my courses, prepared me for the research and theoretical aspects of finance. Currently, I work as a graduate assistant for two different professors at the University of Nevada, Reno, assisting with preparing course materials, proctoring exams, grading papers, recording grades , etc. Additionally, I worked in different financial institutions, in my native country Nepal, after my undergraduate studies, where I was able to gain direct experience in cash handling, customer service and problem solving daily. My professional experiences have allowed me to acquire skills in communication, leadership and time management, which would be very beneficial for my doctorate. As part of my doctorate in personal financial planning, I want to learn more about the contemporary financial theory behind every financial decision an individual or family makes. Every individual has different personality traits that directly affect their decision-making process. I would like to analyze different areas like cash flow management, risk management, investment and tax planning, retirement planning and estate planning. I want to explore how individual decisions differ: is it just a personality trait or other factors such as time pressure, financial environment,.
